Elizabeth Macdonald - WW1 Staff Nurse

ElizabethElizabeth Helen Macdonald (fondly known as Lisette) was born in 1877 at Havannah Harbour, on the island of Efate, New Hebrides. Her father Rev. Daniel Macdonald was a Presbyterian Missionary stationed at Havannah Harbour from 1872 to 1896. Her father also served as a chaplain in the AIF in 1916-1917 at the age of 70 years.
Lisette trained and worked as a nurse at the Ballarat District Hospital for three years. She enlisted as a nurse in World War 1 (A.A.M.C. Reinforcements) on June 14th , 1917, aged 38. At that stage she was living at 13 Mozart St., St. Kilda with her parents.
Lisette became a Staff Nurse with the Australian Army Nursing Service. She embarked on the S.S.Somali in Melbourne on 30.6.1917 and disembarked at Bombay on 30.7.1917.
Elizabeth was posted to the Hislop War Hospital, Secunderabad, India, for duty.
Staff nurse E.H.Macdonald was recommended for 6 months leave in Feb. 1918 from the Army Head Quarters, Simla, India. She was invalided home to Australia via South Africa on the hospital ship S.S.Devanha, leaving 19.2.1918 from Bombay.
Lisette disembarked at Capetown on 8.3.1918 to await continuation of voyage, and was accommodated at Cogill's Hotel, Wynberg.
On 20.3.1918 Lisette embarked at Capetown for Australia on the H.M.T. Osterley, arriving 13.4.1918. Her appointment in the A.I.F. was terminated, due to being medically unfit, on 4.6.1918.
Lisette didn't marry and died in Melbourne in 1968.
