Roger's father, Albert Graham MacFarlane, was born in Scotland. He later emigrated alone to Australia, where he met and Married Millicent Muriel Smith.
Their Marriage lasted just two years before Albert was deployed to France during World War II. Tragically, He was Killed in Battle the Same Year Roger was born.
Roger Joseph McFarland, named after his uncle Joseph Vincent Smith, was deeply influenced by his Family Military Legacy. Motivated by his Father's Death, Roger enlisted in the Second Australian Imperial Force. His sense of duty and desire to honour his father's sacrifice drove him to follow in his footsteps, continuing the Family Tradition of service and Bravery.
