Lance Corporal Leonard Albert Chesterfield (Service No:VX77995) enlisted in the AIF on 6 April 1942 and was attached to 6 and 34 Infantry Training Battalions. Private Chesterfield served in New Guinea (21 October 1943 - 4 March 1944) and Morotai and Labuan (16 March 1945 - January 1946). Promoted to Lance Corporal on 17 September 1945, he was attached to 2/2 Australian Infantry Troops Workshop AEME at Discharge on 5 February 1946.
Len was born at Lake Lara via Geelong, Victoria in 1910, fifth of six children of Martain Taylor Chesterfield (b1874 at Little River, Victoria) and Sara Jane Smith (b1874 at Hovells Creek, Victoria). Martain was a Farmer at Lara Lake via Geelong when he and Sarah married in 1894. They settled at Lara Lake where they raised their family and Martain was a Farmer.
Len worked as a Shop Assistant in Lara Lake, where in 1933 he married Edel May Mackin (b1906 at Mt Egerton, Moorabool, Victoria) - Edel was working in Geelong as a Waitress at the Grammar School. Len and Edel settled at Lara lake, where they raised their family and Len worked as a Shop Assistant and Farmer. In the early 1950s they moved to Geelong, where Len worked as a Storeman before settling in Grovedal, Geelong where Len was a Farmer until his death in 1977. Edel died in 1990.
