Corporal Frederick John Winnett (Service Nos:WX29814/W8584) first enlisted in the ACMF on 20 October 1940 and was attached to 16 Infantry Battalion when he enlisted in the AIF on 13 July 1942. Corporal Winnett was attached to 16 Infantry Battalion when he was Discharged on 8 March 1946.
Born in 1923 in Perth WA, Fred was the fourth of seven children of John Mayberry Winnett (b1892 in Clunes, Victoria) and Sarah (Sadie) Marian Hicks (b1895 in Fremantle, WA). John (a Clerk) and Sadie married in 1916 in Fremantle WA shortly before John embarked for service overseas in WWI (Private; Service No:3225). John and Sadie lived in Fremantle and Perth where they raised their family and John was a Clerk. Following service in WWII (Staff Sergeant; Service No:W17259) John and Sadie settled in Albany WA where John was Assistant Town Clerk.
Fred was an Insurance Clerk in Perth WA prior to his enistment for service in WWII. In 1943 in Perth WA John married Doris Aileen Spencer (b1921 in Geraldton, WA) - Doris was working as a Ladies' Hairdresser in Perth. Fred and Doris settled in Perth WA where Fred worked as an Insurance Clerk. Fred died in 1995 and Doris in 2011.
