Driver Alvan Ernest Whittle (Service No:W13931) served with 121 Australian Reserves Motor Transport Coy from 13 August 1940 until 9 August 1942 when he joined the AIF. He served as a Private (Service No:WX29124) in Morotai and Tarakan (3 April 1945 - 21 November 1945) and was attached to 2 Australian Infantry Troops Ordnance Field Park when he was Dicharged in December 1945. 

Born in Cottesloe, WA in 1919 Alvan was the second of four children of Ernest William Whittle (b1892 in Melbourne, Victoria) and Louisa Lillian Hutchinson (b1896 in Perth, WA). Ernest (a Grocer) and Louise married in 1917 in Perth, WA and lived in Perth and Jarrahdale where Ernest worked as a Clerk and Storekeeper before retiring to Rockingham, WA.

Alvan worked as a Labourer and Car Driver/Mechanic in Perth and was an Australian Rules Footballer - he played twenty games for East Perth (1940 - 1941) and West Perth (1946 - 1951) and one game for Hawthorn Football Club (jumper no: 19) in 1944. Alvan returned to Perth, WA following his WWII service, and was a Shop Assistant in Perth in 1949 when he married Doris Eva Heffernan (b1924 in Northam, WA). Alvan and Doris settled in Perth WA where Alvan worked as a Shop Assistant, Storekeeper and Van Driver. Alvan died in 2008 and Doris in 2013.
