Joseph James Otho Mason
Joseph James Otho Mason was born at Forest Range on the 23rd September 1884 and worked as a farrier prior to enlisting on the 24th August 1916, aged 31. He listed his next of kin as his father, Otho Benjamin Mason.
In early March 1917 Mason was hospitalised for eleven days at Fargo Military Hospital with enteritis, being discharged on the 18th March 1917. He arrived in Etaples, France with the 10th Battalion on the 6th April.
On the 2nd October 1917 Mason was wounded in action with his service record stating “ previously reported wounded in action now reported not wounded with unit.” However no clarification of the situation was provided {NAA:B2455,

While on leave from France Mason was hospitalised for 86 days, being discharged on the 17th May 1918. He returned to France on the 18th July and rejoined his unit on the 23rd July. Mason continued serving in France until the end of the war.
Mason returned to Australia on the Soudan on the 12th May 1919 and was discharged on the 4th August 1919.
