Private Gordon Charles Edward Reid (Service No:TX11828) initially enlisted in the ACMF in 1940 and served as a Private (Service No:T7811) with 12/50 Infantry Battalion for ninety days before enlisting in the RAAF on 12 February 1941. Aircraftman I Reid (Service No:30840) mustered as a Messman and served with the RAAF for 180 days before being Discharged from 2 RAAF Hospital Ascot Vale (Medically Unfit). On 1 July 1942 he re-enlisted with the ACMF (Private; Service No:T34990) and was attached to 12 Infantry Training Battalion when he transferred to the AIF on 1 September 1942. Private Reid (Service No:TX11828) was attached to 12 Australian Infantry Training Battalion when he was Discharged on 28 April 1943.

Born in 1919 in Launceston Tasmania, Gordon was the eldest child of Charles Gordon Sydney Reid (b1897 in Launceston, Tasmania) and Dorothy (Dorrie) May Waddington (b1902 in Launceston, Tasmania). Charles had spent four years in Senior Cadets and three years in the Militia when he enlisted in the AIF in November 1918 - he was Discharged not called up for duty (NAA). Charles (a Carter) and Dorrie married in 1919 in Launceston, Tasmania where they settled and raised their family and Charles worked as a Carter and Labourer.

Gordon worked as a Motor Driver in Launceston, Tasmania and in 1942 married Sylvia May Anderson (b1921 in Dorset, England) - Sylvia had immigrated with her mother and siblings in 1925, arriving in Melbourne, Victoria on board the Themistocles. Gordon and Sylvia settled in Launceston where Gordon worked as a Driver and Labourer. Gordon died in 1982 and Sylvia in 1987.
