Clarence Henry Arnold was born in Mallala, South Australia on 16 June 1897. His parents were Tindall Arnold and Ada Ellen Arnold. Clarence grew up at Mallala and attended Grace Plains School. Before enlistment he worked as a farmer

Clarence Henry Arnold, enlisted on the 17 July 1916 aged 19. After Clarence completed basic training, he was assigned to the 10th Infantry Battalion as a Private. He embarked on board the troopship HMAT Anchises (A68) on the 28th of august 1916 from Adelaide bound for England. He proceede to France in December and was taken on strength with 27th Infantry Battalion. He was appointed a Lance Corporal 25 August 1917. He was wounded 3 October 1918 and after initial treatment in France was invalided to England for further treatment and rest. He embarked for Australia 24 February 1919 and was discharged 3rd April 1919.

Aged 69, Clarnce Henry Arnold passed away on the 8th January 1967 in Adelaide. He was later buried at Centennial Park Cemetery. His name inscribed on many community memorials, some including the Mallala District of Grace WW1 Roll of honour, the Grace Plains Sunday School Pictorial Honour Board and the Grace Plains School Honour Roll.
