Cliff was the son of Alfred Thomas Dawes and Frances Mary Ann Morgan.
Cliff's service number was 5086. He served in France and was wounded in action early in 1917. He sent postcards home to his family keeping his family up to date with his recovery. He always had a limp following his wounding. He was sent to England to recover and convalesce and returned to Australia and married Maree Doreen Monger in 1923. Cliff and Doreen had 5 daughters.
