Harold (Tubby) was the youngest of four children of Harold Stephen Bickford (b1882 in Melbourne, Victoria) and Hetty Cartledge (b1880 in Lancashire, England). In 1884 Hetty arrived in South Australia on board the Hesperus, and in 1911 she married Harold - then a Salesman for Sandover and Co. Harold and Hetty settled in Perth where they raised their family. Harold was a Business Manager for George Wills and Co and active in community and business organisations and committees.

Tubby was a Clerk in Fremantle and Perth and in 1942 married Mollie Lola Dowell (b1915 in Perth, WA) - Mollie was a Clerk.

In 1940 Tubby enlisted with the Australian Army and was a Lieutenant (Service No:WX9701) attached to 16th Infantry Battalion when he was Discharged in January 1946.

Tubby and Mollie settled in Floreat Park, Perth where Tubby was an Assistant Manager. Following Mollie's death in 1950, Tubby married Barbara Elaine Gordon (b1918 in Fremantle WA) in 1952 - Barbara was a Nurse (Sister Tutor at Royal Perth Hospital)

Tubby and Barbara settled in Floreat Park, Perth WA where Tubby was an Assistant Manager. He died in 2002 and Barbara in 2013.
