Edwin was born in Sydney, NSW, Australia on 7 Nov 1923 to father William Thomas Barns(AIF #524)(N.108033.)(12 Dec 1894-11 Jun 1966) and mother Jennie Barns, nee Getz, nee Bloch(16 Mar 1888-25 Feb 1961).
He grew up in Leichhardt, NSW, Australia with older half-brother Vic (NX.58187.)(31 Oct 1919-2 Jun 1943) and younger brother William (10 Mar 1926-30 Jan 1986).
After serving in WWII Ed married Ruth McCulla at Petersham, NSW in 1948 and they divorced in 1959 having no children.
Ed died suddenly of unknown illness aged 39 at Fitzroy, Victoria, Australia.
