Charles Henry Cox was born to mother Elizabeth Farr and father David Cox in October of 1878 in the town of Kapunda in South Australia, Australia. He was a baker, of Methodist religion, before enlisting to be in the 48th infantry battalion in World War One. Cox enlisted at the age of 37 ½ years, on the 20th of April, 1916. After arriving in Plymouth he started his training at Codford in England, used for training the Australian and British troops, and next proceeded to France, fighting in Étaples.
Charles Henry Cox was awarded the 1914/1915 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal for his service with the Australian Army in WWI. He committed two crimes during his service, gambling in the George Hotel 12th January 1917, and being in possession of a false pass 27th April 1917.
Cox was returned to Australia 26th September 1917, being medically unfit to serve due to a disordered action in his heart. His total service to the army lasted 1 year and 260 days. Charles Henry Cox died 20th of June, 1951 in Norwood, South Australia, and was buried in the West Terrace Cemetery on the 22nd of June at the age of 71 years.
