When my father past a family member gave them to my late brother Robert Hanson and unfortunately in his travels throughout Australia he lost the medals. Add my storyBiography contributed by Christine Stewartl
Cecil (AKA Bob) Hanson was born 1.12.1919 Nurse Reynolds Hospital in Wynyard Tasmania . His father was Robert Charles Hanson and mother Lillian Burney.
His siblings were Frances Alice (Poppy) Burney Ena Jean Burney, Dulcie Jean Hanson, Maxwell Herbert Hanson (also served) and baby Gwendoline Hanson. There is also another late half sister Claire Meizer who would be my half Aunt.
I am the person in the family who has extensively researched our family history for last 40+ years. In doing my DNA i found my half Aunt.
His mum Lillian died in 1925 and the children were taken into care.
I have obtain my fathers orphanage records some years ago. The children all went into differemt homes.
In 1943 my father Married at Holy Trinity Church In Richmond Vic
After the war he lived in Burnie with relatives while building his first family home at 2 Morris Street Cooee.
It was only a 2 bedroom home so after some time a larger home was required as the family grew.
While he was building the home at 23 Linton Street Upper Burnie he lived with relatives in Ulverstone. He but the garage first and converted it to a flat while building the house.
My father also owned number 25 and 21 Linton Street and a block opposite which he sold to finance our family home.
My father was in business with Robert Kingston also a ww2 veteran for some years.
In all my parents had 8 children.
However in 1968 my mother died of cancer leaving 4 minor children for my father to raise.
Then in 1972 my father also died leaving 3 young boys all minor children.
Initially Legacy helped with there upkeep. My sister Robyn wanted to house the 3 boys however found it difficult so two eldest went to.Canberra to my other sister and for a tiime also stayed with me.
We are all scattered around various places in Australia.
My father and mother died so young it left a huge void in our family.
Knowing my father, his childhood history and later years makes me so proud he was my father.
He clearly met with obstacles lthroughout his life but he became a stronger person..
