Ethel was the youngest of five children of John (Jack) Joseph O'Mara (b1875 in Melbourne, Victoria) and Lucy (Bub) Beatrice Mary Towton (b1883 in Perth, WA). Jack - a Horse Trainer - served in the Boer War (Farrier Sergeant; Service No:2830) and was a Horse Trainer in Perth WA in 1904 when he married Bub - daughter of well known WA Horse Racing identity (Breeder, Trainer, Jockey) George Towton who had stables at Belmont in Perth, WA. 

Ethel worked as a Clerk/Shorthand Typist in Perth WA and in June 1942 enlisted in the AWAS (Corporal; Service No:W45647) and served as a Wireless Operator. Ethel was attached to 15 Australian Lines of Communications Signals when she was Discharged in November 1945. Three brothers - John, Matt and Bill - also served in WWII.

In December 1946 Ethel married William (Billy) Forster (b1917 in Perth, WA) - Billy had served in WWII (Lieutenant; Service No:NX20769). Ethel and Billy settled in Melbourne, Victoria where Billy worked as an Audit Clerk, Secretary and Accountant. He died in 1976 and Ethel in 1980.
