Son of Thomas Unsworth and Sarah Unsworth nee Sedden of Frodsham, Cheshire, England.
Arrived in Adelaide from Liverpool, England, on 29 November 1912 aboard Belgic. State Records GRG 41/34. While living in England he had served his seven year apprenticeship with P&R Jackson of Manchester, England.
Husband of Mary Ellen Unsworth nee Beard of Regent Street, East Parade, Kensington, SA.
5 May 1917 - enlisted at Adelaide, SA, with the 10th Battalion and with the rank of Private.
16 May 1918 - transferred to the Australian Army Medical Corps Details
Commenced return to Australia on 24 August 1918 HT Medic disembarking on 11 October 1918 at Melbourne for onward travel to Adelaide
Medal: British War Medal
28 October 1918 - discharged at the 4th Military District as medically unfit due to defective vision involving the macula
