Military Medal
'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. In the HANNEBEEK Valley (near WESTHOEK) on the 20th October, 1917, this driver by his judgment and courage succeeded in delivering his full load of ammunition to his battery under very heavy shell fire and across almost impassable ground. Repeatedly cut off and enveloped by the barrage, in spite of imminent danger to himself and animals, he led them with great judgment and skill until he succeeded in delivering his ammunition to his guns. Throughout the whole period of the recent operations this driver's work has been consistently of a very high standard.'
