Private David Albert Leslie Barlow (Service No:WX19138) enlisted in the AIF on 19 January 1942 with 13 Training Battalion, and was a Gunner attached to 116 Light Anti Aircraft Regiment (RAA) at Discharge on 21 November 1945.
David (Leslie/Les) Albert Leslie Unicume was born in Kent, England in 1908, fourth of six children of Frank Harold Unicume (b1875 in Kent, England) and Emily Jane Widdish (b1876 in Kent, England). Frank (a Farm Labourer) and Emily married in Cranbrook, Kent in 1898 and settled in Cranbrook where they raised their family and Frank was a Railway Platelayer. In 1914 Emily and her six children immigrated, arriving in Adelaide, South Australia on board the Borda - Frank remained in England. By 1919 Emily had settled with her children in Western Australia, and by 1925 was living in Perth with Lambert (Bill) Stace Molyneaeux Barlow (b1878 in Bengal, India) - Bill had separated from his wife and children. Leslie and his younger brother Jesse adopted the surname 'Barlow'. Emily and Bill settled in Perth, where Bill was a Labourer.
Les worked in Perth as a Labourer and Carpenter's Labourer, and in 1940 in Perth married Phyllis Amelia Furzer (b1908 in Perth, Western Australia). Following his Discharge from the Army, Les and Phyllis settled in Perth, where they raised their family and Les worked as a Labourer and Machinist/Machine Operator. Les died in 1976 and Phyllis in 1993.
