Died on this date – 15th November…… Charles Harold Hinton was born at Southampton, Hampshire, England in 1888. He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) on 31st May, 1915 in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia as a 20 year old, single, Cellarman.

Private Charles Harold Hinton embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on HMAT Shropshire (A9) on 20th August, 1915 with the 7th Infantry Brigade, 25th Infantry Battalion, 2nd Reinforcements.

On 12th October, 1915 Private Charles Harold Hinton was taken on strength of 25th Battalion at Gallipoli. He was wounded at Gallipoli on 13th October, 1915 with a bullet wound to head & was sent to 7th Field Ambulance on 13th October, 1915 then transferred the same day to 16th Casualty Clearing Station with a “Bomb wound head.” Private Hinton was transferred to Hospital Ship Valdivia at Gallipoli Peninsula on 15th October, 1915 with G.S.W. (gunshot wound/s) to head.

He embarked from Mudros on 21st October, 1915 on Hospital Ship Aquitania for England & was admitted to Royal Victoria Hospital, Netley, Southampton, England on 27th October, 1915 with G.S.W. (gunshot wound/s) to Head. His Mental condition became worse on 4th November, 1915 & Paralysis set in on 5th November, 1915

Private Charles Harold Hinton died on 15th November, 1915 at Royal Victoria Hospital, Netley, Southampton, England from wounds received in action at Gallipoli – gunshot wound to the head.

He was buried in Southampton Old Cemetery, Hampshire, England where 3 other WW1 Australian War Graves are located.
