LAURENCE GEORGE HARROLD was born at Largs Bay, South Australia, on 4th February, 1893, the son of the late Mr. E. E. Harrold and of Mrs. Harrold. He was educated at St. Peter’s College, Adelaide, and joined the service of the Bank in that city on 30th June, 1910.

Laurence George Harrold enlisted as a private in the A.I.F. on 1st July, 1915, and left Australia in the 32nd Battalion on 18th November, 1915.

He was engaged in Egypt until July, 1916, and was in France until November, 1917, when he went to Italy and fought there until the following March. He was promoted to sergeant in November, 1917. Returning again to France he was in active service until April, 1919, part of the time in the 5th Divisional Gas Services. He received his discharge in September, 1919.
