The Minmi Roll of Honour has 79 names inscribed of those who returned home from The Great War.

The 24th name inscribed is Private George Edwin Williams.

On the 30th July 1957, Private George Edwin Williams, 34th Battalion (Reg No-1274), butcher (West Wallsend Co-operative Society), from Church Street, Minmi, New South Wales and Dudley, N.S.W., father of Merle, was laid to rest at West Wallsend General Cemetery, Old Sec 1 Row X Plot 43, age 61 years 7 months.

WILLIAMS-George, funeral notice, 30th July 1957, late of Dudley, Newcastle Herald, 30th July 1957.

Born at Minmi, New South Wales on the 16th December 1895 to George and Emma Williams nee Cork; husband of Selina Margaret Gilchrist Williams nee Johnstone, married 1920, West Wallsend, N.S.W., died 20.11.1990, age 90, sleeping with George at West Wallsend General Cemetery, N.S.W., Old Sec 1 Row X Plot 43 , George enlisted on the 24th January 1916, age 20 years 1 month, at Newcastle, N.S.W.

Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A20 Hororata on the 2nd May 1916.
Disembarked Plymouth, England 23.6.1916.

Proceeded O/Seas to France from Southampton, England 21.11.1916.

Wounded in action - 6.4.1917 (GSW left leg & left foot, severe, probably around the northern French town of Armentieres).

Embarked for England and admitted to hospital 1.5.1917.

Granted furlough from 9.10.1917 to 23.10.1917.

Amputated left foot 23.10.1917.

Commenced return to Australia 25.11.1917.

George arrived home on the 10th January 1918, being discharged medically unfit on the 5th March 1918.

Mr. Williams’s name has also been inscribed on the Minmi St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church Roll of Honour and the Newcastle & Northern District Branch Meat Workers' Union Honour Roll, unveiled on the 10th January 1920, 47 names inscribed, whereabouts unknown.

Not officially commemorated, but should be.
I would like to see poppies placed at George’s gravesite in remembrance of his service and sacrifice for God, King & Country.
