Sapper John Edward O'Byrne (Service No:W43052) enlisted in the ACMF on 2 January 1942 with 19 Garrison Battalion before transferring to 5 Labour Coy. On 10 November 1944 Sapper O'Byrne transferred to 25 Australian Mechanical Transport Coy and was Discharged on 15 October 1945.
Born in 1916 in Geraldton WA, John was eldest of six children of Patrick (Jack) John O'Byrne (b1890 in Fremantle, WA) and Alice Mary Dodds (b1892 in Geraldton, WA). Jack (a Labourer) and Alice married in 1914 in Geraldton WA, where they settled and raised their family and Jack was a Railways Worker in the region.
John was a Timber Worker in Northampton, WA in 1939 when he married Edna May Hartnett (b1920 in Northampton, WA). John was a Timber Worker/Wood Machinist in Northam and Wonthella via Geraldton, and in 1951 he and Edna Divorced in Perth WA. John remarried in Perth in 1952 to Beatrice Joy Bruher (b1927 in Perth, WA). John and Joy settled in Perth where John was a Timber Worker. Joy died in 1972 and John in 1984.
