Sergeant Albert Melville Jorgensen (Service No:WX31648) initially served in the ACMF (Private; Service No:W46114) from 11 March 1942 to 8 September 1942 with Western Command Ordnance Workshops (renamed WA Line of Communication Area Workshop in April 1942) and 9th Advanced Workshops. Promoted to Corporal on 5 September 1942, he was at Bushmead, WA when he Discharged to enlist in the AIF the next day. Corporal Jorgensen - classified Blacksmith - was attached to 5 Australian Base Workshops on 29 November 1944 when he was promoted to Sergeant. Sergeant Jorgensen served in Bougainville (14 May 1945 to 7 December 1945) with 6 Australian Mechanical Equipment Workshops and 126 Brigade Workshops and was Discharged on 4 January 1946.
Albert was born in Albany, WA in 1903, 6th of eight children of Knud Jorgensen (b1863 in Odense, Denmark) and Marie Hansen (b1862 in Odense, Denmark). Knud (a Labourer) and Marie married in Melbourne, Victoria in 1889, and by 1898 had settled with their family in Albany, WA. Knud worked as a Labourer until his death in 1916.
Albert worked as a Blacksmith in Albany where, in 1931, he married Alice Symons Bunker (b1907 at Lake View, WA) - Alice was working as a Waitress at the George Hotel in Albany. Albert and Alice settled in Albany where they raised their family and Albert had his own business as a Blacksmith and Truck and Body Builder. Albert died in 1979 and Alice in 1986.
