Son of Robert Cecil and Rose Louisa Clifton, of Perth, Western Australia.

21 year old Lt. George Leake Cecil Clifton crashed his aircraft in France and died from his injuries on 22 July 1917. He enlisted in Perth after having just turned 19 and was an original member of the 28th Battalion, and served on Gallipoli from late August 1915 and at Pozieres in 1916. He is buried at Doullens Communal Cemetery Extension, near Amiens in France. Lieutenant George Clifton was the son of the State Under-Secretary for Lands in WA, Mr Robert Clifton, and enrolled at Hale School in 1907. His brother, 155 Corporal Alvared R.C. Clifton was at the Landing as an original member of the 11th Battalion, but was returned to Australia, partly blinded, after suffering severe bomb wounds to his right eye, face and both legs during July 1915.
