Basil Earl AITKEN (1900-1970)
Basil Aitken was born in New Zealand in 1900. The family moved to Australia before the First World War. Basil tried to enlist but was rejected on age.
He had to wait for another World War, and as the records shows, he enlisted twice! The first time on 26 Oct 1939, where he dropped his date of birth by five years. At that time 40 years was the cutoff for the draft and enlistment. Ages were adjusted and Basil re-enlisted to 'set the record straight'.
