William Deal was born in Battersea, London, England on the 23rd May 1912 and at the time of moving to Australia was a mechanic.

He married Lillian Doreen and at the time of his enlistment they were living at Brunswock, Melbourne, Vic.

He enlisted with the Australian Army in Caulfield, Victoria on the 19th January 1942 as Craftsman in the 1st Mechanical Equipment Company.

William served at Tennant Creek as a machinery mechanic.

In October 1943 he changed his occupation to Group 1 Coppersmith.  On the 6th December 1943 he embarked on the ship 'Canberra' to Port Moresby, New Guinea.

On the 10th June 1945 he returned to Australia disembarking in Brisbane after serving 533 days overseas and a total of 1339 in military service.

He was discharged from the Army on 18th September 1945.

William and Doreen later moved to Cronulla in Sydney, NSW
