Albert was the youngest of seven children of Henry James Short (b1862 in Braidwood, NSW) and Eva Elizabeth Hannay (b1872 in Adelaide, South Australia). Henry (a Book Binder) and Eva married in Adelaide, South Australia in 1899 and settled in Sydney, NSW where they raised their family.
Albert was working as an Agent in Sydney when he enlisted in the Australian Army in February 1943. He was a Private (Service Nos:NX146538/N207552) when he was Discharged in April 1946. In November that year he married Margaret Elizabeth Morris (b1922 in Brisbane, QLD) in Brisbane.
The couple settled in Sydney, NSW where Albert worked as a Book Binder. He died in 1984 and Margaret in 2002.
