Private James Baird (Service No:WX15219) enlisted in the AIF on 23 July 1941 in Claremont WA - graded as Driver Mechanic attached to 10 Armoured Regiment. Transferred to 10 Ordnance Vehicle Park AAOC on 24 August 1944, Private Baird embarked with his Unit from Brisbane for Morotai on 19 June 1945 on board the Evangeline. Embarking from Morotai for Brisbane on board the Kanimbla on 7 December 1945, Private Baird was attached to 10 Ordnance Vehicle Park AAOC at Discharge on 18 December 1945.
Born in Kalgoorlie, WA in 1911, Jim was fifth of six children of John (Jock) Thomas Baird (b1872 in Kyneton, Victoria) and Mabel May Strongman (b1878 at Lake Grace, South Australia). Jock (a Telegraphist) and Mable married in 1900 in Norseman, WA and lived in Kalgoorlie and Bunbury before settling in Perth in 1915. Jock worked as a Telegraphist/Telegraph Operator.
Jim was a Truck Driver in Perth where, in 1939, he married Nancy McDonald (b1916 in Cue, WA). Jim and Nancy divorced in 1946 and Jim lived in Perth with his mother and brother, working as a Labourer. Jim died in 1979.
