Lindsay was the third of four children of Albert Allan McCredden (b1884 in Donald, Victoria) and Mary Sophia Dawson (b1891 at Ceres, Geelong, Victoria). Albert - a Labourer - and Mary married in Stawell, Victoria in 1916. They lived in Yarram Yarram and Geelong where Albert was a Labourer before moving to Port Franklin in the early 1920's - Albert was a Share Farmer. By 1926 the family had returned to Geelong, where Albert was a Labourer. By the mid 1930s Albert and his family had relocated to Fremantle in Western Australia.

In May 1941 Lindsay was a Carpenter in Subiaco, Perth WA when he enlisted in the Australian Army (Trooper; Service No:WX13269). He was attached to 106 Ordnance Vehicle Park when he was Discharged in 1946.

Back in Perth, WA Lindsay was a Carpenter in Subiaco, when he married Norma Joyce Stone (b1924 in Perth, WA) in 1947. Norma was a Machinist. Lindsay and Norma settled in Perth and then Fremantle where Lindsay worked as a Carpenter and Builder. By the early 1970s Lindsay and Norma had moved to the Kimberley in WA where Lindsay was a Builder at Fitzroy Crossing. By 1980 Norma had returned to Perth and Lindsay was working as a Ganger in Kununurra. He died in 2007 in Perth and Norma died in 2014.
