Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

The eldest of two brothers who served in WWII, Private Ernest Edward Flint (Service Nos:W54698/WX40408) served with 5th Motor Ambulance Convoy (MAC) as a Driver, initially in the ACMF (16 March 1942 - 18 August 1943). On 19 August 1943, Private Flint transferred to the AIF, and was attached to 5th Motor Ambulance Convoy (MAC) at Discharge on 20 December 1945.

Ernest was born in Perth, Western Australia in 1913, eldest of two children (sons) of Ernest Edwin Flint (b1883 in Bendigo, Victoria) and Margaret Mary Oliphant Jack (b1881 in Aberdeenshire, Scotland) - Margaret immigrated in 1909, arriving in Fremantle on board the Mongolia. Ernest Snr had worked in Gwalia and Kalgoorlie as a Miner and Labourer, and in 1911 he and Margaret married in Perth, where they settled and raised their sons. Ernest Snr worked as a Carrier before enlisting in the AIF in 1915 (Corporal; Service No:1571) and returned to Perth following his Discharge. Ernest Snr was a Carrier and Storeman in 1923 when he left Margaret and their children and moved to Adelaide.

Ernest worked as a Clerk and Greengrocer in Perth where, in 1938, he married his first wife Doris Eva Leighton (b1918 in Perth, Western Australia). Ernest was Discharged from the Army in December 1945, and he and Doris lived in Perth, where they raised their family and Ernest was a Clerk. Following their separation in the late 1950s, Ernest worked as a Motor Driver and in the early 1970s remarried to Dorothea Muriel Reynolds (b1922). Ernest and Dorothea settled in Bentley in Perth and Ernest worked as a Motor Driver until retirement. Ernest died in  1993 and Dorothea in 2002.
