Corporal Stanley Dene Barnes (Service No:V63083) initially served in the Militia (Service No:299291) and was attached to 4th Division Australian Army Amenities Service (AASC) when he enlisted in the ACMF on 29 November 1940. Transferred to 8 Motor Ambulance Convoy on 5 September 1944, Corporal Barnes was graded Carpenter. In 1945 he applied for a compassionate Discharge due to 'family troubles' (NAA), and in June that year Master Builder and Contractor EA Watts made application through Manpower Directorate for Corproal Barnes' release from Service to take up employment with Housing Commissions' Housing Projects (NAA). Corporal Barnes was attached to 8 Motor Ambulance Convoy at Discharge on 27 November 1945.
Stan was born in Melbourne, Victoria in 1917, ninth of ten children of Herbert John Barnes (b1876 in Geelong, Victoria) and Jane Evelyn Dickinson (b1876 in Myrtleford, Victoria). Herbert (a Carpenter) and Jane married in 1899 in Mortlake, and in the early 1900s settled in Melbourne, where they raised their family and Herbert was a Carpenter until his death in 1940.
Stan worked as a Florist in Melbourne before enlisting in the Militia in 1935, and was a Carpenter in 1940 when he enlisted in the ACMF. In 1942 in Mornington, Stan married Theles Nancy Garlick (b1920 in Mornington, Victoria). Following his Discharge, Stan and Theles settled in Melbourne, where they raised their family and Stan was a Carpenter. In the mid 1970s, Stan and Theles moved to Kingston, Ballarat where Stan worked as a Carpenter. Theles died in 2000 and Stan in 2003.
