Son of Patrick Vaughan and Margaret Vaughan nee Rigney of Dry Street, Inveresk, Launceston, Tasmania. Brother of John Bernard Vaughan who returned to Australia 4 January 1920 having served with the 3rd Field Artillery Brigade.
Served a five year Blacksmith apprenticeship with the Railways, Launceston, Tasmania
Commenced return to Australia on 1 July 1819 aboard HT Karmala disembarking on 17 August 1919 at Melbourne for onward travel to Tasmania
