Private Basil Raymond Spark (Service No:VX86262) initially served in the ACMF (Driver; Service No:V75196) from 15 February 1941 to 2 August 1942 and was in Tocumwal, NSW when he Discharged to enlist in the AIF on 3 August 1942. Private Spark served with 2 Port Detachment AASC in Borneo (Balikapan and Makassar) and was attached to 2 Port Detachment AASC at Discharge on 22 March 1946.

Basil was born in Ballarat, Victoria in 1917, eleventh of fourteen children of Archibald (Arch) Leslie Spark (b1874 at New Chum via Bendigo, Victoria) and Jessica (Jessie) Violet Ah Tann (b1877 at Sago Hill via Ballarat, Victoria). Arch was a Miner in 1894 when he and Jessie married in Strathfieldsaye, Bendigo. They settled in Ballarat where they raised their family and Arch worked as a Miner and Carter.

Basil worked in Melbourne as a Textile Mechanic at Shetland Mills before enlisting in the Army. Following his Discharge, he settled in Melbourne where he was living with Mary (aka Myrtle) Myrtle Daphne Cripps (b1920) - Basil was a Manufacturer and Myrtle a Machinist. Basil and Myrtle married in 1950 in Melbourne, where they settled and raised their family and Basil worked as a Contractor and Manufacturer and Myrtle as a Forewoman (Textile Mill). Basil died in 1997 and Myrtle in 2004.
