Private George Edward Cotter (Service No:NX88741) enlisted in the Australian Army in February 1942 and was attached to 2/3 Pioneers Battalion when he was Discharged in December 1945.

The seventh of nine children, George was born in 1923 at Bogan Gate in Parkes NSW. His parents - Sydney Alfred Cotter (b1884 in Grenfell, NSW) and Catherine Elizabeth Jennifer Coffee (b1888 in Moama, NSW) married in 1911 in Parkes, NSW. Sydney worked as a Labourer in Bogan Gate, Ungarie, Condobolin, Lake Cargelligo and Tottenham.

George was eighteen years of age when he enlisted in the Army in 1942, and following his Discharge in December 1945, returned to Ungarie, NSW where he worked as a Fettler on the Railways. In the early 1950s he married Thelma Elsie and the couple lived in Wherris Creek, West Wyalong, Brocklesby, Blackheath and finally Waratah in Newcastle  while George worked as Station Master. George died in 2017.
