Corporal Reginald Hilary Broderick (Service Nos:N28488/NX161182) enlisted in the ACMF on 12 September 1940, and was called up for Full Time Duty on 22 December 1941. Private Broderick - graded Wireless Mechanic - was 'in the field' in Darwin, Northern Territory with Radio Physics and Training Establishment on 5 February 1943 when he transferred to the AIF. Corporal Broderick was attached to 3 Australian Radio Maintenance Section at Discharge on 1 April 1946.
Reg was born in Sydney, New South Wales in 1912, second of five children (and only son) of Aubrey Eric Broderick (b1890 in Crookwell via Goulburn, New South Wales) and Kathleen McMahon (b1890 in Picton, Sydney, New South Wales). Aubrey started work in 1909 as a Teacher's Assistant at Croydon Park Public School, and was a Teacher at Morundah Public School via Narrandera in 1912 when he and Kathleen married in Picton. The couple settled in Sydney, where they raised their family and Aubrey was a Teacher. Following Kathleen's death in 1944, Aubrey remarried.
Reg was working in Sydney as a Radio Mechanic in 1940 when he enlisted in the Army, and in 1945 in Sydney married Ellen (Jean) Mary Jean Williams (b1918 in Murrumburrah, New South Wales) - Jean was working in Sydney as a Cashier. Following his Discharge from the Army, Reg and Jean settled in Sydney, where they raised their family and Reg was a Radio Mechanic. Jean died in 2003 and Reg in 2013.
