CUTTS, Lionel Ray (1891-1975)

Lionel Ray Cutts was enrolled at Geelong College during 1908. His address at enrolment was Aberdeen St, Geelong. He had been born on 9 November 1891, the son of Joseph Edward Cutts and Fanny nee Trevett, of Aberdeen Street, Geelong.

He enlisted (No 1309) as Sergeant on the 28 July 1915 in the 7 Light Horse Regiment (10 Reinforcements Group October 1915). He embarked on HMAT A32 Themistocles on 5 October 1915 for Egypt and then France, where he transferred to 10 Field Ambulance Brigade. He was hospitalised in England late in 1916, suffering from scarlet fever.

On his return to France, he was wounded, suffering serious gunshot wounds to the jaw, and was admitted to Boulogne Hospital, as reported in the Geelong Advertiser on 3 August 1918. He returned to Australia, embarking on 6 May 1919.

His brother, Aubrey Reginald Cutts (1893-1972), was also educated at Geelong College.
