Private Tasman Albert Langford (Service No:VX50078) enlisted in the Army on 9 March 1941 and was attached to  4 Australian Reserve Motor Transport Coy on 10 April 1941 when he embarked from Sydney for Singapore on board HMT 00. Private Langford was Reported Missing in Action on 6 April 1942 and confirmed as a PoW of the Japanese in Thailand on 3 November 1943 (PoW No:13055). On 9 June 1945 Private Langford was transferred to Fukuoka PoW Camp - a mine and foundry in Japan, and was retrieved from the Japanese on 13 October 1945. Private Langford was Discharged on 24 December 1945.

Born in 1911 in Melbourne Victoria, Tasman was the fifth of seven children of Arthur James Langford (b1877 in Melbourne, Victoria) and Alice Ada Barnett (nee Brett; b1873 at Emerald Hll, Victoria). Arthur (a Letter Carrier) and Alice married in 1939 in Melbourne, Victoria where they had lived since the early 1900s. Arthur was Mail Officer/Mailman.

Tasman worked as a Truck Driver in Melbourne prior to his enlistment, and was a Mechanic in Melbourne in 1947 when he married Freda May Ling (b1919 in Penguin, Tasmania). Tasman and Frida settled in Melbourne where Tasman worked as a Mechanic. Frida died in 1970 and Tasman in 1977.
