Ernest was the ninth of twelve children of Charles Jesse Bishop (b1869 in Northam, WA) and Hannah Burton (b1875 in York, WA). Charles (a Labourer) and Hannah married in 1892 in York WA where they resided most of their lives. Charles worked as a Labourer on construction of the railway line from Clackline to Spencer's Brook, and later was a Farmer in Qualen and Greenhills.
Ernest was a Stockman in Worroloo, WA when he enlisted in the Australian Army in May 1941. He was a Private (Service No:WX12854) attached to 16 Small Ship Coy when he was Discharged in February 1946.
Ernest worked in the Mullewa/Perenjori Region as a Stockman - at Bunjil and Moora. He died in 1973.
