Private John Fredrick Cloke (Service No:WX23413) enlisted in the AIF on 30 July 1945 with 4 Recruit Training Battalion. Private Cloke served in Japan (9 April 1946 - 18 October 1947) with the British Commonwealth Occupation Forces (BCOF), and was attached to 255 Australian Supply Depot Platoon AASC at Discharge on 31 October 1947.

John was born in Fremantle, Western Australia in 1927, second child of John (Jack) Frederick Cloke (b1900 in Fremantle, Western Australia) and Lavinia (Lena) May Nilsen (b1904 in Fremantle, Western Australia). Jack started work as a Junior Porter with the WAGR at sixteen years of age, and was a Porter until the mid 1920s. In 1927 he was a Labourer in Fremantle when he and Lena married. The couple settled in Fremantle (Mosman Park, White Gum Valley), where they raised their family and Jack worked as a Labourer and Storeman.

John was a Storeman in 1945 when he enlisted in the Army, and following his Discharge, lived in White Gum Valley with his parents and worked as a Storeman. In 1964 in Fremantle, Jack married Alice Lucy Norgate (nee Treen; b1920 in Cornwall, England) - Alice had immigrated with her three children in 1952, arriving in Fremantle on board the Ranchi and was working in Fremantle as a Barmaid. John and Alice settled in Fremantle (Coolbellup), where John worked on the wharves as a Lumper and Alice as a Barmaid. Alice died in 1991 and John in 2000.
