Sergeant Murray Grosvenor Wood (Service Nos:V65967/VX81497) initially served in the ACMF (15 December 1941 - 17 June 1942) as a Private/Sapper with 5th and 7th Infantry Battalions. He was stationed at Bagot NT on 18 June 1942 when he transferred to the AIF. Sergeant Wood was attached to 16 Australian Small Ships Coy at Discharge on 5 February 1946.

Murray Gravenor Wood (BDM Vic No: 25191) was born in Melbourne, Victoria in 1922, eldest of four children of Robert Murray Wood (b1897 at Swan Hill, Victoria) and Isla Victoria Berrigan (b1898 in Melbourne, Victoria). Robert had served in the AIF in WWI, and was a Wicker Worker in 1921 in Melbourne when he and Isla married. They settled in Melbourne, where they raised their family and Robert was a Commercial Traveller and Insurance Salesman.

Murray was a Commercial Traveller in Melbourne before serving in the Army, and in 1944 in Melbourne married Olive Jean Olcorn (b1923 in Rutherglen, Victoria). Following his Discharge, Murray and Olive settled in Melbourne, where they raised their family and Murray was a Commercial Traveller until his death in 1984. Olive died in 2014.
