Add my storyBiography contributed by CHERYL HAYES
Edwin was the son of Walter Woodrow Holmes and Lucy Cameron Holmes (nee Carter) at Rouchel, near Scone in the Upper Hunter Valley. He had two older half-brothers, Cyrus and Wilford Gardner, and a brother, Walter who died aged 10 months in April 1899.
Following the death of his mother, Lucy, (in June 1899) he lived at Rouchel with his father and extended family until aged about 5 years. At this time his father, Walter moved to Goomeri, on the Darling Downs, where he took up land.
Aged 22, Edwin enlisted for service in WW1, at Brisbane in April 1918, returning to Australia in October 1919.
Following discharge Edwin returned to the land. He died a bachelor.
