The following is from information hand down by family members.
Cecil John Clark joined the Royal Navy 9 October 1916 (J60936),
He transferred to the Australian Navy (RAN 14272) on 20 April 1924 and was discharged with the rank of Leading Seaman 8 July 1930.
John enlisted in the Australian Army Ordinance Corp on 24 May 1938 as a "Workshop Assistant". His occupation was listed at "Painter". On 13 Sept 1940 he was promoted to Sargent (Acting) Grade 2.
At his own request he transferred to the 1st Australian Water Transfer Group, Royal Engineers (which, during the course of the war, underwent several name changes) on 30 June, 1943, at Box Hill, Victoria and was discharged 21 December, 1945, with the rank of Warrant Officer Class 1. (The Sergeant Major of a unit is a Warrant Officer Class One and holds a special position within the unit as the commander's right hand man and his senior soldier. He is known as the Regimental Sergeant Major regardless of whether the unit is a Regiment or Battalion.)
His posting at time of discharge: 11th Australian Small Ship Company. Service Number VX142233. He was discharged from the services on 21 December 1945
John died as a result of illness contracted during the war. He was married to Elaine nee Winstanley on 15 April 1929 at St James Church, Sydney. They had no children.
His ashes are interred in War Lych Wall 2AA 603 - Pittosporum Lawn, Springvale, Victoria.
