Private Raymond Harry Richards (Service No:NX22579) enlisted in the Australian Army in May 1940 and was attached to 1 Australian Supplies Res Depot when he was Discharged in March 1945. Brother Kelvin (Service No:NX24185) also served in WWII.

Ray was the eldest of two children of Arthur Henry Richards (b1890 in Booval, Ipswich, QLD) and first wife Alice Mary Elsie Caban (b1888 in Ellalong, NSW). Arthur was a Miner in Sydney NSW in 1915 when he enlisted in the AIF (Private; Service No:889). WiA in France, his leg was amputated, and in 1916 in Sydney NSW he and Alice married. The couple settled in Sydney, NSW where Arthur worked as a Gatekeeper and following Alice's death in 1944, Arthur remarried and settled in Wyong, NSW.

Returning to Sydney NSW following his Discharge, Ray worked as a Labourer and in 1945 in Canterbury in Sydney he married Barbara Vitnell (b1915 in Mudgee, NSW) - Barbara was working as a Machinist in Sydney. Ray and Barbara settled in Grayndler, Sydney NSW where Ray worked as a Labourer and Driver. Ray died in 1986 and Barbara in 2000.
