Private Alexander Eric Roberts (Service Nos:N86764/NX110096) initially served in the ACMF from 8 January 1940 to 20 August 1942 as a Gunner attached to 1st Survey Regiment. On 21 August 1942 Private Roberts transferred to the AIF, serving with 1 Australian Survey Battery, 2 Army Loading Detail, 4 Australian Survey Battery, and 16 Field Coy RAE in Jacquinot Bay (25 November 1945 - 24 January 1946). Gunner Roberts was attached to 4 Australian Survey Battery at Discharge on 24 January 1946.
Eric was born in Stirlingshire, Scotland in 1919, third for four children of James Roberts (b1885 in Stirlingshire, Scotland) and Helen Taylor (b1888 in Stirlingshire Scotland). James started work as a Colliery Labourer, and in 1913 was a Pit Fireman when he and Helen married in Stirlingshire. In 1923 James and Helen immigrated with their family, arriving in Sydney, New South Wales on board the Themistocles. James and Helen settled in Lithgow, where they raised their family and James was a Miner.
Eric was working as a Moulder in Sydney when he enlisted in the Army in 1940, and in 1942 in Sydney married Patricia Noeline Moroney (b1918 in Sydney, New South Wales). Following his Discharge from the Army, Eric and Patricia settled in Sydney, where they raised their family and Eric was a Moulder until his death in 1980. Patricia died in 2010.
