Biography contributed by Evan Evans

From Shayne Cunningham

John William "Jack" Roberts left his family in the small NSW river town of Ulmarra and joined up for service in WWI.

Jack was a school teacher with a fine baritone voice and he loved poetry.

When he returned home, injured, he married his girl, raised four kids of his own and continued to teach school children.

He used the structure of the military and supported young people in Surf Lifesaving, earning life memberships, until his early death from war-related injuries.

A gentle man who saw his duty.
