Isaac Davies served with the Fourth Battalion Australian Commonwealth Horse during the Boer War. Although almost 40 years of age, he was six feet tall and almost 200 pounds on enlistment.

He was one of five brothers who enlisted in the AIF during WW1. Isaac was married in 1915 to Mary Elizabeth Davies of Perth WA.

A younger brother, 774 Pte. Frederick Charles Davies 8th Battalion AIF was killed in action 14 April 1918, aged 26.

His other brothers were 6884 Corporal George Edward Davies 1st Australian Divisional Train (mentioned in despatches), 5006 Private Robert Daniel Davies 1st Australian Divisional Train and 3808 Private Arthur John Davies 12th Field Artillery Brigade.
