Private Alan Bruce Flanagan (Service No:VX102181) enlisted in the Australian Army on 3 September 1942. He served with 3rd Australian Armoured Division and 2/106 General Transport Coy and was attached to 2/21 General Transport Coy when he was Discharged on 25 September 1945. 

Born in 1926 in Lilydale, Melbourne Victoria, Alan was the eighth of twelve children of George Thomas Flanagan (b1870 in Rosewood nr Ballarat, Victoria) and his second wife Elsie (Essie) Louisa Harms (b1891 in Myrtleford, Victoria). Alan (a Bricklayer) and Essie married formally in 1941 in Melbourne, Victoria. George and Essie had lived in Benalla and Melbourne where George had worked as a Labourer and Bricklayer.

In 1944 Alan married Noreen Gladys Munt (b1926 in Biggenden, QLD) - Noreen served in the AAWMS (Service No:Q268026). Following his Discharge, Alan and Noreen lived in Childers and Eidsvold in QLD where they raised their family and Alan worked as a Fettler and Ganger, and Noreen as Station Mistress. They retired to Maryborough (Hervey Bay) QLD where Noreen died in 1999 and Alan in 2017.
