Ivan Thomas Murphy

Legally, Ivan’s war records show that his name change happened by Statutory Declaration when he returned to Australia. He also added Cheltsea his wife to his military records who he married prior to discharge. Ivan was single when he enlisted in 1941. Ivan served in New Guinea Kokoda 1942-to late 1943.

Enlisted Underage in his Harry’s name

Officially Ivan’s name was changed to correct whilst Ivan Thomas whilst in New Guinea in 1941. Ivan enlisted under his older brother’s name Harry at 17yrs.
Evidence based on records I hold. Ivan held 2 enlisting numbers. One in Harry and one in Ivan.
I recall many times my father talking about this and he was found out when he was in New Guinea. There was nothing they could do except change his name whilst he was on the field there.
