Captain Donald Stuart Mowat Horne (Service Nos:V25474/VX108242) initially enlisted in the Militia on 21 December 1938 with 17th Light Horse (later Machine Gun) Regiment, before serving in the ACMF (12 September 1941 - 31 July 1942) as a Lieutenant with 17th Light Horse Regiment. Captain Horne was attached to 105 Anti Tank Regiment on 1 August 1942 when he enlisted in the AIF - and served in Darwin NT (15 February 1944 - 19 June 1945) with 101 Anti Aircraft Regiment. Captain Horne was attached to 54 Anti Aircraft Regiment at Termination of his Appointment on 28 November 1945. Brothers John and Urquhart (KiA) also served in WWII.

Stuart was born in Warrnambool, Victoria in 1911, seventh of nine children of William Horne (b1869 in Allansford via Warrnambool, Victoria) and Catherine Imlah/Imlay (b1874 in Aberdeenshire, Scotland). William and Catherine married in 1900 in Warrnambool, where they settled and raised their family and William was a Grazier.

Stuart was a Grazier at Invoisnaid, Rochester where, in 1936 he married his first wife Nancy Isabella McGregor (b1908 in Rochester, Victoria). Stuart and Nancy settled in Rochester, where Stuart was a Grazier in 1941 when he enlisted in the Army. Following his Discharge, Nancy remained in Rochester and Stuart worked in Melbourne as an Assembler. In 1948 in Melbourne, Stuart married his second wife Clarissa (Rissa) Eleanora Magee (nee Weaver; b1912 in Sydney, New South Wales). Stuart and Rissa settled at Risuata via Balmoral, where they raised their family and Stuart was a Grazier - moving to Dunsmore via Port Fairy in the late 1950s - Stuart was a Grazier. Stuart and Rissa retired to Geelong in the mid 1960s. Both died in 1994 - Rissa in April and Stuart in May.
