Private John Christopher Carns (Service No:VX58335) enlisted in the AIF in Melbourne on 25 June 1941 and served with 2/14 Field Regiment in Darwin, NT (30 December 1941 - 2 February 1943). Private Carns was attached to 24 Australian Works Coy at Discharge on 24 June 1945.
John was born in Wanganui, New Zealand in 1918, eldest son of Christopher Carns (b1885 at Adventure Bay, Tasmania) and Daisy Della Russell (b1894 in Hobart, Tasmania). Christopher (a Labourer) and Daisy married in Hobart in 1915, and moved to New Zealand where Christopher was a Labourer. They returned to Tasmania in 1920, living in Denison and Moonah (where Christoher worked as a Labourer). In the late 1920s Christopher and Daisy settled in Melbourne, where they raised their family and Christopher worked as a Labourer.
John worked as a Labourer in Melbourne, where in 1938 he married Dorothy Jean Tucker (b1921 in Melbourne, Victoria). Following his Discharge from the Army, John and Daisy settled in Melbourne - before Divorcing in the early 1950s. John lived in Melbourne, where he worked as a Labourer until his death in 1977.
