Private Vincent Andrew Hardy (Service No:VX66716) enlisted in the Australian Army on 1 December 1941. Private Hardy served in New Guinea (6 December 1943 - 17 March 1944 and 30 April 1944 - 1 March 1964). He was attached to 126 Australian Workshops Platoon when he was Discharged on 20 June 1946. Father Basil (Service No:2669A) served in WWI.
Born in 1923 in Melbourne Victoria, Vincent was the second of three children of Basil Joseph Hardy (b1891 in London, England) and Rosland Mary Ahearn (b1892 in Coburg, Victoria). Basil immigrated with his parents and siblings in 1893, arriving in Fremantle WA on board the Helena Mind. Following WWI Basil worked as a Tram Conductor in Melbourne, Victoria and in 1921 married Rosland (a Saleswoman). Basil and Rosland settled in Melbourne where they raised their family and Basil worked as a Tram Conductor.
Vincent was a Sheetmetal Worker in Melbourne when he enlisted in the AIF, and following his Discharge worked as a Boilermaker in Melbourne. In June 1960 he travelled to England on board the Fairsea and in July in Wood Green in Middlesex he married Rita Ainsworth Thompson. Vincent and Rita settled in Melbourne, Victoria where Vincent worked as a Boilermaker. In the mid 1970s they moved to Geelong where Vincent worked as a Boilermaker. Vincent died in 1988.
